One Eleven Corporation and Medikly Announce Development of Unique Social Learning Offering Designed to Increase Quality of Care
Integrated Offering Will Extend SampleServer® Functionality While Giving Access to Real-Time, Point-of-Care Medical Knowledge and Information
WEST CORNWALL, CT and JERSEY CITY, NJ (December 16, 2010) – One Eleven Software, a leader in the development of software solutions for healthcare providers (HCPs), and Medikly, a leading software as a service provider of social learning tools for the healthcare space, today answered the call for innovation highlighted by the now landmark Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) report To Err is Human study and recent research from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) that shows medical errors may result most frequently from preventable adverse events and dosage errors. The two companies announced the development of a healthcare-specific suite of customized social learning tools designed specifically for HCPs.
“With this integrated offering, we’re empowering providers to access, share, exchange, and collaborate on information, understand and make better decisions regarding appropriate medication prescriptions, while having the convenience of ordering samples,” said David Young, President, One Eleven Software. “The combined One Eleven-Medikly solution will help pharmaceutical companies and other healthcare organizations share content anytime, anyplace and apply specific knowledge at the point of care.”
Medical errors kill some 200,000 Americans, according to recent Hearst Corporation data, and rank between the fifth and eighth leading cause of death – more than breast cancer, traffic accidents, or AIDS. Serious medication errors occur in 5% to 10% of patients admitted to hospitals. These numbers may understate the problem because they do not include preventable deaths due to medical treatments outside of hospitals. Since the release of the IOM study in 1999, the need for a solution to deliver higher quality health care has increased and this is reinforced by the AHRQ’s research regarding preventable adverse drug events.
“We were inspired to develop a joint offering based on AHRQ data that shows the key 4 main factors in contributing to preventable adverse events and dosage errors are appropriate prescribing, ordering, administering, and lack of knowledge among healthcare providers,” said Dr. Venkat Gullapalli, Chief Executive Officer, Medikly. “The One Eleven-Medikly tool addresses the four main causes of preventable medical errors by giving providers just-in-time, easily accessible information. In addition, our outcomes data will allow us to further refine the toolset as more providers use it.”
